Holmesglen Institute of TAFE is a leading education provider, delivering a wide range of courses for industry, professional training and development and the community. Holmesglen presently offers over 600 courses to more than 50,000 students. As part of BuildSmart a number of short courses and a graduate certificate have been developed incorporating the 'sustainable' theme.
Graduate Certificate in Environmentally Sustainable Building Design
This is an applied course providing graduates with the requisite degree of skill and knowledge needed to operate effectively in the environmentally sustainable building design environment, utilising a hybrid of contemporary education teaching methods, project and problem based learning, with an applied focus.

FirstRate training
The FirstRate house energy rating software is a powerful design tool which calculates the energy efficiency of residential house designs. Using details from the house plans, the system assesses the house or unit's energy efficiency on a 5 star scale and instantly measures the effects of design changes entered by the user.
An 8 hour short course on the use of the FirstRate software is available for builders, designers, architects and planners, or indeed anyone who is interested in energy efficient house design.

On-site Waste Water Treatment
These courses have been developed after operatives in the waste water industry identified a need for further specialised development of the skills involved in the installation, servicing, testing, maintenance and reporting on waste water treatment plants with a hydraulic capacity up to 5000 litres per day and composting – dehydrating treatment systems.
